NOTE: Due to the continuing poor air quality, the walk has been postponed until Saturday, December 8.
No zombies or tie-dye rock bands on this walk. Instead, join us for a walk in honor of The Day of the Dead. We’ll explore several cemeteries, mausoleums and columbariums, learn a little about different customs regarding death, and see the final resting place of some of the people from Oakland history.
The group for this walk will necessarily be smaller than usual, so it’s sure to fill up fast. We’ll be going in and out of various buildings around Piedmont Avenue, so no dogs for this walk.
- wear comfortable walking shoes, suitable for grass
- wear a hat and/or sunscreen as needed
- bring water to drink
There will be a variety of stairs and grassy hills. Depending on timing, the walk will be between 3 and 4 miles.
You’ll be emailed the starting location when you sign up. Because space is limited, no walk-ups. And if you can’t make it, be sure to cancel your reservation using the instructions in the email from Eventbrite.
Sign up on Eventbrite is required.
If you can’t make this walk, you might want to go on one of the free walking tours that Mountain View Cemetery offers on 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Read more on their website.
