The walk this month will be around Lake Merritt, full of history and change. And this time of year, full of lots of birds, which is fitting, since it is America’s oldest official wildlife refuge. Who knows…maybe we’ll even spot the Lake Merritt Monster.

The walk will begin at the amphitheater at the south end of the lake on Lake Merritt Blvd. at 10AM. The current forecast is for sunny and cool weather, though given the rain this week, who knows. Light rain is OK, heavy rain cancels. As always, bring a hat and sunscreen as needed, good walking shoes, and be ready for a variety of weather. Well-behaved dogs on leash are OK, though they’ll have to skip the Gardens at Lake Merritt.
